Who Was Jim Jones?

Born on May 13, 1931, in Crete (near Lynn), Indiana, Jim Jones was a notorious cult leader. As the self-proclaimed messiah of the Peoples Temple religious cult, Jones promised his followers utopia if they followed him. On November 18, 1978, in what became known as the Jonestown Massacre, Jones led more than 900 men, women and children to their deaths in a mass suicide via cyanide-laced punch (spawning the metaphor "Don't Drink the Kool-Aid").

Jim Jones (May 13, 1931–November 18, 1978), the leader of the Peoples Temple cult, was both charismatic and disturbed. Jones had a vision for a better world and established the Peoples Temple to help make that happen.     Joseph Guillermo Jones II (born July 15, 1976),[1] better known by his stage name Jim Jones (or Jimmy Jones), is an American rapper, record producer and record executive. He is a founding member of the hip hop collective the Diplomats (also known as Dipset), which he formed in 1997 with fellow Harlem native Cam'ron.[2][3]

    Following the commercially successful release of the group's debut album Diplomatic Immunity (2003), Jones released his debut solo album, On My Way to Church (2004), independently to moderate success. His second and third albums, Harlem: Diary of a Summer (2005) and Hustler's P.O.M.E. (Product of My Environment) (2006), both peaked within the top ten of the Billboard 200. The former's release coincided with Jones landing an executive position in A&R for the independent record label Entertainment One Music (known then as Koch Records), while the latter was preceded by the single "We Fly High
