One of Hollywood's leading entertainment journalists, Nancy O'Dell became a fixture in Tinseltown as co-host of "Access Hollywood" (Syndicated, 1996- ) and a reliable backstage correspondent at entertainment awards shows. Born Nancy Humphries on Feb. 25, 1966, the Charleston, SC native began her broadcasting career as a news reporter and anchor at television stations in Myrtle Beach and Charleston, where her investigation into lax DUI processing resulted in a change to the state law and an award from the Associated Press. O'Dell went on to co-anchor the news at NBC affiliate WTVJ in Miami, FL before she was recruited to join the first season of the entertainment magazine show "Access Hollywood" as a weekend anchor and weekday correspondent. Three years later, she assumed the role of co-anchor on the show's daily broadcasts and solidified her reputation as one of the top entertainment reporters in the city - particularly with her on-location coverage of the Os

Nancy O'Dell began her broadcast career as a reporter and anchor at WPDE-TV in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She later worked as morning news anchor and crime reporter at WCBD-TV. While in Charleston, O'Dell's reports on the lenient police approach to DUI cases led to a State Law Enforcement Division investigation that resulted in state authorities re-issuing a more stringent directive regarding these cases. Ms. O'Dell was honored by the Associated Press with the Best Report of the Year Award (all media, South Carolina). Following her work in Charleston, O'Dell served as co-anchor and investigative reporter for NBC's Miami station, WTVJ-TV, before joining Access Hollywood (1996) as a weekend co-anchor and weekday correspondent in 1996. In addition to her current work as a lead anchor on Access Hollywood (1996), Ms. O'Dell also contributes to NBC News' Today (1952), and also to Dateline NBC (1992). She has covered such events as The Oscars, The Emmys, The Grammys and The Golden Globe Awards, as well as co-hosting a number of Pre-Show/Arrivals shows

What were your parents’ professions?

My father owned a construction company. My mother was a stay-at-home mom for the majority of her life, but she also was a real estate agent for a while. She was a very involved mom. Her example is what really shaped me as a mom today. She and my dad were there for everything, attending all my events. My daughter is very involved in every sport you can imagine. I remember how much it meant to me to look over at the sidelines and see my parents at my basketball games and my tennis matches. I want to be there as well. It is very important to me to attend all my daughter’s activities. My mom helped me so much with my schoolwork, which I think is what allowed me to succeed. And there was never a minute that I did not feel loved.

She is in Charlotte, North Carolina. We were close growing up and are even closer now.
