Anna Tifu is an Italian classical violinist who has made an international career. She won the George Enescu International Competition in 2007.
Career
Anna Tifu was born to a Romanian father and Italian mother in Cagliari.[1][2] She began playing the violin at age six, taught by her father. She appeared first as a soloist at age eleven with the Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire. A year later, she played Bruch's Violin Concerto No. 1 at La Scala in Milan.[3] She won the Vittorio Veneto competition in 1994, the Viotti-Valsesia competition in 1998, and the international Marcello Abbado competition in 1999.[2][4] She studied at the Academy Walter Stauffer in Cremona with Salvatore Accardo, and at Academy Chigiana in Siena, graduating in 2004. She won a scholarship of the Mozart Gesellschaft of Dortmund,[2] and studied at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia with Shmuel Ashkenazy, Pamela Frank and Aaron Rosand.[3]

Winner in 2007 of the prestigious George Enescu international competition in Bucharest, Anna Tifu is considered one of the best performers of her generation. Born in Cagliari, she began studying the violin at the age of six under the guidance of her father and playing in public at the age of 8, winning the first prize with a Special Mention of Merit at the Vittorio Review. At the age of 11 she made her debut as soloist with the Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire and at 12 years old she performed the Bruch Violin Concerto at La Scala in Milan.
At 14 she won first prize at the Viotti Valsesia International Competition as well as in Stresa, where she won the Marcello Abbado International Competition in the same year.
She received her Music Diploma in Cagliari at the age of 15 with special honors.
