On March 22, 2017 of Washington Twp. Age 77. Beloved wife of the late John E., Sr. Devoted mother of John E. Allen, Jr., Richard B. Allen, Ronald N. Allen and his wife Monica. and don K. Allen. Loving grandmother of 12. Proud great-grandmother of 2. Dear sister of Willie, Elizabeth,
and Pearl Johnson, Pauline Heath, Julius and Andrew Johnson.

Bertha Lee Allen, born April 28,1939, in Smithville, GA to JC and Mary Johnson. Bertha is the 3rd oldest of eight children: Willie Clarence, Elizabeth, Bertha, Jesse Pearl, Curtis, Julius, Pauline Heath and Andrew. Bertha moved to NYC around 1954, where she met and married John Earl Allen Sr. John and Bertha had six children: John Jr., Richard, Ronald (Monica), Dan Kelvin, Don Keith and Tara-Son. Bertha has 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Bertha loved her family, cooking, baking, fishing, watching sports on TV and playing the lottery. Bertha will be sadly missed by all that knew her.

Bertha Allen age 85, of Altus, Oklahoma died September 18, 1971 at Memorial Hospital in Altus, Oklahoma.

Bertha was born February 24, 1906 in Texas. she married Jan Allen in 1029 in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Bertha had been a resident of southwest Oklahoma since 1929.

Funeral services for Bertha Allen are scheduled for Tuesday, September 21, 1971 at 2:00 pm in the Assembly of God Church, Altus, officiated by Rev. Carl McCoy. Burial will follow in the Restlawn Cemetery under the direction of Tims Funeral Home.

Bertha Allen is survived by her husband Jan of the home in Altus; sons, Bill Yocham, Altus, Oklahoma; Robert Yocham, Altus, Oklahoma; Floyd Allen, Altus, Oklahoma; Monroe Allen, Altus, Oklahoma; Richard Allen, Altus, Oklahoma; Mary Ruth Morris, Madison, Georgia; Lola Hazelwood, Altus, Oklahoma; Alice Faye Pardue, Defendce Spring, Florida; thirty-five grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, one brother, Blueford Tanner, Langiston New Mexico; sister, Lones Word, Coleman, Texas.

Bertha Allen, Gwich’in, 1934-
She is a life-long activist for social change and the advancement of Aboriginal and northern women. She was President of the Advisory Council on the Status of Women of the Northwest Territories, founding President of the Native Women's Association of the Northwest Territories and former President of the Native Women's Association of Canada. Allen has served on the NWT Constitutional Committee, National Aboriginal Advisory Committee to the RCMP Commissioner, NWT Judicial Appointments Committee, and the Multicultural Advisory Committee to the RCMP.
