The esoteric star of Twin Peaks prepares for the comeback of the century
Never has a television show commanded as much devotion as ‘Twin Peaks’, which reached instant cult status the moment its first episode aired on 8 April 1990. Kyle MacLachlan, the inscrutable actor at its centre, has a dedicated band of followers all his own, who were presumably heartbroken when the show was taken off air after only two seasons. But rejoice! In the final episode, ill-fated character Laura Palmer announced that she would see Special Agent Dale Cooper, as played by MacLachlan, in 25 years. Right on time, director David Lynch revealed this year that ‘Twin Peaks’ is back in production and MacLachlan is set to reprise his role. Beloved for his character’s catchphrase, “Now, that’s a damn fine cup of coffee,” Kyle also enjoys a damn fine glass of his very own wine, which he produces on his vineyard in Washington state.

Kyle MacLachlan is an American actor born February 22, 1959. Quite possibly best known for his role as the mysterious, yet welcoming agent Special Agent Dale Cooper in in Twin Peaks, Kyle MacLachlan has enjoyed a successful acting career spanning decades. His career has been spread across television, movies, theatre, and even videos games.
It may be a surprise for most to learn that MacLachlan voiced Donald Love in Grand Theft Auto III (2001). When asked about MacLachlan’s role in Twin Peaks, Lynch has commented that “Kyle plays innocents who are interested in the mysteries of life.
He’s the person you trust enough to go into a strange world with.” which is exactly who Special Agent Dale Cooper is and what he does for the both the audience and the town folk of Twin Peaks. In addition to Twin Peaks, he’s worked with David Lynch on other projects as Jeffrey Beaumont in Blue Velvet and as Paul Atreides in Dune.

Kyle Merritt MacLachlan (/məˈɡlɑːklən/; born February 22, 1959) is an Americanactor. MacLachlan is best known for his roles in cult films such as Blue Velvet as Jeffrey Beaumont, The Hidden as Lloyd Gallagher, as Zack Carey in Showgirls and as Paul Atreides in Dune. He has also had prominent roles in television shows including appearing as Special Agent Dale Cooper in Twin Peaks, Trey MacDougal in Sex and the City, Orson Hodge in Desperate Housewives, The Captain in How I Met Your Mother, and as the Mayor of Portland in Portlandia.
Early life
MacLachlan was born in Yakima, Washington. His mother, Catherine (née Stone), was a public relations director, and his father, Kent Alan MacLachlan, was a stockbroker and lawyer. He has Scottish, Cornish and German ancestry. He has two younger brothers named Craig and Kent, both of whom live in the Pacific Northwest. MacLachlan graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1977.
