A fugitive turns herself in after 12 years

Back in the early 90s, Las Vegas was going through a kind of identity crisis. It was the “family friendly” phase.

But on that sunny, clear, quiet morning on the strip what was about to happen was a dark version of the Vegas fantasy.

It was over before most gamblers there were even awake: It was a perfect crime in broad daylight, pulled off by a mysterious woman.

It was a story of sex, magic, money and murder that made the movies look tame.

And over ten years later, the story isn’t over.

The heist
The tale begins on October 1, 1993, a Friday. Courier Scott Stewart and a partner jumped into the back of a Loomis armored truck loaded with weekend cash for casino ATMs.

Before she became America’s most wanted woman, Heather Tallchief moved to Las Vegas. It was 1993—the year of the World Trade Center bombing, the Rodney King trial, and Nirvana’s benefit gig for Bosnian sex abuse victims at Cow Palace. She was 21 years old and short on money, but the decision to leave San Francisco still surprised her family and friends. A charismatic poet, 27 years her senior, had bought her a drink at a bar a few months earlier, then read her tarot cards. It was decided that their future lay in the land of casinos. Heist is the new true-crime series on Netflix which explores three different heists, carried out by the most ordinary of people.

The first two episodes, titled "Sex Magick Money Murder" focuses on the case of Heather Tallchief and Roberto Solis, who pulled off a $3 million heist in 1993.

Tallchief's version of events is told word for word through actor Lisa Lord after Tallchief decided to protect her anonymity for the Netflix documentary.

Who is Heather Tallchief?

Heather Tallchief is a healthcare worker who was once the most wanted woman woman in America.

In early 1993, Tallchief, 21, met convicted murderer and robber Roberto Soli, 48. In the documentary, Tallchief recalls falling in love with Solis but also being easily manipulated by him, particularly through the use of hypnotism.

Under the instruction of her accomplice Solis, Tallchief took a job at Loomis, an armoured security company.
