Q & A With Jamie Korngold

Authors who reside in picturesque locations are fortunate to live in such environments. Many seek inspiration from their harmonious location while others are driven more by their unique interests. Today’s guest author, Rabbi Jamie Korngold, thrives on both. Jamie has successfully found a way to blend her love of Judaism with her love of nature as the Adventure Rabbi in Colorado. Unlike many rabbis who simply model Jewish traditional Jewish practices and values, Jamie encourages her congregants to learn something traditional and then individualize the concept. By authoring children’s books, she is able to share this philosophy with a wider audience of youngsters.  Her unique stories have kid appeal. Today, Jamie will share information about her background and books.

ATOP the slopes in Boulder, Colorado, is where Rabbi Jamie Korngold, better known as the Adventure Rabbi, joins our Zoom call... smiling from ear to ear.

Having gained the moniker through her Adventure Rabbi programme, which integrates spirituality and the outdoors, she is ready to get her skis on.

“Once we are finished here, I will be tackling the slopes,” she tells me proudly.

Unfortunately for Rabbi Jamie, though, we have much to cover because her life has been quite the fascinating journey so far.

Born in Albany, New York, in 1965, she moved to Edgemont, a small hamlet on the outskirts of the city, where she was raised.

And it was there that the seeds of her Reform Judaism and adventurous lifestyle blossomed.

“I was raised in a religious Reform family with my mum Carole serving as president of our congregation and my dad Robert as the barmitzvah and batmitzvah teacher,” she said.

“Raised in the 60s and 70s, it was a really creative time liturgically and theologically, and my parents were deeply involved with rabbis, building on modern thinking.
