The movie, Here Comes the Groom, that won her the award was her first foray into acting beyond her usual roles as a reporter or TV host.

In her acceptance speech, a tearful KaladKaren said, "Etong parangal na ito ay hindi lamang po recognition ng aking trabaho, kundi pati na rin po ng aking pagkatao.

"When I entered show business, I never thought na makakakuha po ako ng award kasi, as a transgender woman, I thought I will never be enough."

Kevin Balot

Filipina actress and model (born 1986)

Kevin Roxas Balot (born November 25, 1991) is a Filipino model, actress, and beauty pageant titleholder, who was crowned Miss International Queen 2012, making her the first Filipino transgender woman to win the pageant.[1][2][3][4]

Early life and education

Balot was born to Renato and Liberty Balot. She has two sisters, Karen and Kimberly. As a child, her father, Renato, wanted her to be an engineer. This and other gendered expectations, such as criticism for wearing make-up, made it difficult for Balot to find acceptance from her family.[5][6][7]

After graduating high school, she lived on her own and entered LGBTQIA++ beauty pageants in order to finance her college studies as a nursing student.[6] She has a degree in BS nursing, and as of 2012 worked as a volunteer nurse.[8] That year she also accepted a job teaching English in Thailand.[8]
