From 2016 to the time of his death, Mr. Lucchino also served as chairman of the Jimmy Fund, which raises millions for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and is the Red Sox’ official charity.

At Dana-Farber, we remember him as a committed champion who advanced our shared mission and made a lasting impact on patients everywhere through his efforts to deepen our partnership with the Red Sox, his leadership as an Institute Trustee and Chairman of the Jimmy Fund, and his generous philanthropy.

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Lucchino first came to the Institute in the mid-1980s when he was treated for non-Hodgkin lymphoma by the late Dr. Tom Frei, former Institute physician-in-chief, and Dr. Lee Nadler, senior vice president of experimental medicine and PMC Chair at Dana-Farber.
