The China–Africa business connection: An interview with the CEO of Standard Bank

Before 2007, Standard Bank Group, Africa’s largest financial institution by assets, had done its fair share of international deals. Over the years, it had not only expanded northward into the continent from its base in South Africa but had also established a presence in Hong Kong, Russia, and South America. Still, Standard Bank could hardly be considered a high-profile bank on the world financial stage. All that changed in October 2007, when Standard Bank announced that it had sold a 20 percent stake to the giant Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) for $5.5 billion, the largest Chinese foreign investment at the time.

This may include academic challenges and educational support, physical health, spiritual wellness and growth, as well as counselling or psychological assistance.
The Housemaster and House Tutor are typically the first point of contact for any emotional or academic issues that boys may be confronted with. Within their capacity, the Housemaster and Tutor will support a pupil but may refer them onwards to a member of the Wellness Team or another avenue in pursuit of the best possible resolution.
If boys would prefer to speak to someone outside of the Boarding House, the Chaplain, Academic Support Specialist, and school Psychologist are available in differing capacities.

South African businessman, banker and corporate executive

John (Jacko) Helenius Maree (born 30 August 1955, Johannesburg, South Africa) is a South African banker. He spent his career working for Standard Bank in South Africa both as its chief executive officer for fourteen years and as its deputy chairman since late 2016.

Early life

Jacko Maree was born in Johannesburg South Africa on 30 August 1955 to parents John Maree, business executive and Joy du Plessis, a Springbok golfer.[1] He matriculated from St. Andrew's College, Grahamstown in 1973 and attended Stellenbosch University where he obtained a Bachelor of Commerce.[1][2] He later attended Oxford University after receiving a Rhodes Scholarship in 1978 where he obtained a Master of Arts degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics in 1980.[1][3] He also received a PMD from Harvard University.[4]

Career

He joined Standard Bank group in 1980.[1] Maree started in the corporate finance department of Standard Merchant Bank
