Patrick Utomi Keynote Speaker

Patrick Utomi is one of Nigeria’s prominent professors of political economy and management expert, a Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants of Nigeria, and has twice been a candidate for the office of President of Nigeria. He has also served in senior positions in Government, as an Adviser to the President of Nigeria, the private sector and in academia.

Having studied in the U.S., Patrick returned to Nigeria in 1982 and at age 27 was appointed as a Special Assistant (Political Affairs) to the President of Nigeria. He later joined Volkswagen of Nigeria as an Assistant General Manager responsible for Corporate Affairs and within five years, he was named (acting) Managing Director.

In 1994, he became a Director of the Centre for Applied Economics at the Lagos Business School of Pan African University, a university which he co-founded along with Opus Dei, a Catholic religious group. He has been a scholar-in-residence at American University, Washington D.C. as well as a research associate at Harvard Business School.

Patrick Okedinachi Utomi (born 6 February 1956[1]) is a Nigerian professor of political economy and management expert.[2] He is a Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants of Nigeria[3] and a former presidential candidate.[4] He is the founder of Centre for Value in Leadership (CVL)[5] and the political party, the African Democratic Congress. He is a professor at Lagos Business School,[6] and has served in senior positions in government, as an adviser to the president of Nigeria, the private sector, as Chief Operating Officer at Volkswagen Nigeria.[4]

Dr. Pat Utomi is a recognized Nigerian political economist and management expert. He is a senior fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants of Nigeria and a former presidential candidate. He has served at the highest levels in public offices, the private sector, as well as in academia. He served in senior positions in government, as an Adviser to the President of Nigeria, and in the private sector, as Chief Operating Officer for Volkswagen of Nigeria. He is the founder of Centre for Values in leadership (CVL), a social enterprise organization dedicated to empowering Nigerians to make lasting contributions in areas of business, public life, and civil society. Dr. Utomi is the current Chair of the African Union’s Pan-African Private Sector Trade and Investment Committee (PAFTRAC).
