Chantel McGregor comes to The Platform in December

Guitarist and singer-songwriter Chantel McGregor released her highly anticipated new album, Lose Control, on Friday 9th October 2015 on her independent boutique label Tis Rock Music, The new album is the follow up to her critically acclaimed 2011 debut solo album, Like No Other.

After four years of touring and festival appearances, Chantel returns with a vengeance with ten new songs that not only salutes contemporary rock, but shows her gradual transition from conventional Blues to a harder, bigger and bolder rock sound with progressive influences.

“I’ve always been interested in the dark side of Southern Gothic literature, artwork and media,” says Chantel. “I wanted to create an album that reflected the imagery and themes of that genre. I drew inspiration from the TV shows True Detective and True Blood and studied the literary works of Tennessee Williams, Carson Mullers and Mark Twain.”

A virtuoso guitarist and gifted singer, Bradford-born Chantel McGregor divides her time between her home town and Cambridge.

A guitar prodigy from a young age, Chantel enrolled at the Leeds College of Music and became the first student in the college’s history to achieve a 100 per cent pass mark, with 18 distinctions.

Chantel left with a first class honours degree in popular music and a coveted prize – the college’s musician of the year award.

She notes that she’s been “half living” in Cambridge for “about five years”. “My boyfriend lives there,” she reveals, “so we live in Romsey, just off Mill Road.”

“I come back up [to Bradford] quite often because my band’s still based up here,” says Chantel, who early in her career was invited to perform with renowned American guitarist Joe Bonamassa on two of his UK tours, “so I’m here pretty much every week!”

Chantel Dawn McGregor is an English blues rock guitarist and singer-songwriter.

History

McGregor was given her guitar and was given some tuition by her father. She was having formal lessons at the age of seven. She listened to her parents' music including Black Sabbath and Fleetwood Mac. One of her favourite albums is Fleetwood Mac's Rumours album and she has recorded some of their music.[1]

McGregor attended Leeds College of Music where she achieved a number of awards, including the Leeds College of Music Prize for Outstanding Musicianship. She gained a First Class Honours degree in Popular Music in 2008,[2] and has gone on to develop a career in the UK and international blues and rock music scene, performing solo and with her band.
